2007 Season - Week 17

Winners

And so H came up just short of breaking the Single Season points record of 574 by 100 points! He ended up with a ridiculous total of 670 points (an average of 39.4 pts per week). A huge congratulations to the founding member to win the Papas Fritas Trophy – and what a way to win it. He is the first ever to lead the league all the way from wire-to-wire putting up the highest weekly score on 9 occasions with 5 Hall of Fame weeks. For the 2nd straight season (and 4th overall) Johnny was the runner-up with a total of 539 that would’ve won in 8 previous seasons. Johnny’s total is the 7th highest all-time. Ron has his best ever BUMS season finished 3rd. But a word of warning for H – for the last 3 years the Papas winner has been relegated the following year:- John, Daz and Wayne all found defending the title too pressurised. A big shout out to our Conference Winner rookie Mark H who passed AP with 24 minutes to go in the last game of the season. He will be joined in the Big League next year by AP and Daz. This is the 2nd time in 3 years AP has lost a title by 1 point. (Daz beat him in race for the 2005 Premiership title). The Great Escape Going into the last week 9 points separated 4 owners who were looking to escape. John never got into his escape tunnel and he joined Aaron in the Conference Cooler but for the other 3 escapees the order changed 7 times. In the Saturday Night game Dave G made his break when Burress scored his first TD putting Chief into the Conference Camp. Chief responded when Maroney scored putting Dave back in, but when Burress scored his 2nd TD it was Marcus who started Sunday in the drop spot. In the 2nd quarter of the early games a Dunn TD run moved Marcus back past Dave. Marcus and Chief then swapped escape places a couple of times as the day went on. With the Chargers leading 27-17 Oakland fumbled a punt on their own 4 yard line. 3 plays later the mighty Raider D had prevented a first down and so Nate Kaeding added on a meaningless Field Goal with 1:56 left in the game, gaving Dave 3 more points. Dave escaped again when his last player (his head coach) won his late game in OT! So going into the final game of the season Marcus (with Peyton Manning still to play) was in the final Conference Camp spot, three points behind Chief (Vince Young to go) with Dave G a further 2 points ahead. With 7.51 left in the 1st half Jim Sorgi came in to the game to replace Peyton and Dave & Chief made good their escapes.
